"It means 'Lady, three white leopards sat under a juniper tree.'"
He sneered. Or so it was rumored. They say when asked to interpret the line “three white leopards sat under a juniper tree,” from his poem “Ash Wednesday,” T.S. Eliot infamously responded, “It means, 'Lady, three white leopards sat under a juniper tree.'"
Critic Roland Barthes has said, "Literature is the question minus the answer." I believe this. I believe that literature raises questions, spawns questions, essential questions, questions which resist absolute answers. On the contrary, it is the multiplicity of answers rendered unique by individual interpretation that awakens us.
But wait, this is my page! And you clicked on it! So what can I tell you about me that you haven't already gathered from class? I'll let you in on a few things. Here goes...
I love acaí. With bananas on top and an extra packet of Tia Sonia.
I think sudden downpours are wonderfully cathartic.
I think Salvador is prone to the humors of magical realism.
I used to swim competitively. I still do sometimes.
200 fly was my race. Still is sometimes.
Becoming a teacher was a total accident.
My real plan was to run away, join the circus, and travel the world by train.
The plan got slightly derailed by a strange series of Argentine accordion players.
I can both swear and sing in Yiddish.
Sometimes I listen to Lady Gaga. Don't tell anybody.
Sometimes I rock out to Nirvana. Don't tell anybody.
Singing Vanessa da Mata has helped my Portuguese. You can tell people that one.
My favorite word in Portuguese is jabuticabeira.
It took me three tries to get my driver's license. I like looking out the window.
I'm obsessed with street art, graffiti, and public murals.
I'm also obsessed with the ocean, espresso, and paradoxes.
I've broken my nose twice. I blame it on the paradoxes.
I'm a huge dork. I've embodied it.
Bottom line?
I'm writing a book. You might be in it.
But you probably already knew that, didn't you? ;-)
